How Long Does House Cleaning Take in Ottawa?
How long does house cleaning take in Ottawa? For a typical regular clean, most homes land between about 2.5 and 6.5 hours, depending on how many bedrooms and bathrooms you have and how tidy things are when the cleaner arrives. Clean and Shiny publishes time ranges for each area of the home, and this guide adds them up so you can book the right number of hours the first time.
Ottawa homes work hard for six months of the year. Long winters mean wet boots, road salt and mud tracked through entrances, and in fall the leaves and slush start the same cycle. That extra grit lives mostly on floors and in the entrance, which is why the "everywhere" part of a clean (floors, dusting, garbage) is often the biggest time block.
How long does each room take to clean?
These are the time ranges listed on our what's included page for a regular cleaning. They are estimates for an average, reasonably maintained space, not a stopwatch guarantee.
Area | Typical time | What the time covers |
|---|---|---|
Kitchen and dining room | 40–60 min | Appliance exteriors, microwave inside and out, counters, tables, dishes and sink, dusting of surfaces and range hood |
Toilets and bathrooms | 40–60 min | Toilet, shower or tub, sink, mirrors, countertops and vent grilles |
Bedrooms | 20–40 min | Making beds, tidying, dusting surfaces, fixtures, moldings and baseboards |
Everywhere else | 45–90 min | Washing floors, vacuuming or sweeping, dusting moldings and heaters, emptying garbage cans |
How long does house cleaning take in Ottawa by home size?
Add the ranges above and you get a realistic window for your home. The examples below are our own arithmetic from the published ranges, assuming the bathroom range applies per bathroom and the bedroom range per bedroom. They are a planning guide, not a quote.
Home size | Estimated time (regular clean) |
|---|---|
1 bedroom, 1 bathroom | about 2.5 to 4 hours |
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom | about 2.75 to 4.75 hours |
3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms | about 3.75 to 6.5 hours |
If your total comes out under three hours, remember that our minimum booking is 3 hours. We do not offer 2-hour cleanings, so a small apartment still gets a full three hours of attention.
What makes a house cleaning take longer?
Time since the last clean: a home cleaned every week stays on top of dust and buildup. A first visit, or a home that has gone months between cleans, simply has more to do.
Clutter on surfaces and floors: cleaners can only wipe what they can reach. Clearing counters and floors before the visit gives the time back to actual cleaning.
Pets and kids: hair, crumbs and fingerprints add minutes in the kitchen, entrance and living areas.
Special tasks: inside the oven or fridge, window edges and interior windows, the patio door or organizing laundry are included at no extra cost, but they need to be requested in advance so the hours can be planned around them.
Deep cleaning scope: deep cleaning adds tasks such as cleaning walls in the kitchen and bathrooms and the inside of appliances, so it is booked with more hours than a regular visit.
How many hours should I book for my Ottawa home?
Our pricing is a fixed hourly rate, so the hours you pick decide the cost. Rates depend on how often you book: $35 per hour for weekly service, $43 every 2 weeks, $46 monthly and $52 for an occasional clean. Deep cleaning is $52 per hour. Regular cleaning starts from $105 and deep cleaning from $280, before taxes, and an extra $15 applies if you are outside the service zone.
You do not need to be exact. We do not need to visit your home before sending a quote, because pricing is hourly. The first service shows whether the booked hours were enough, and any added time needs your approval first. A good starting point is the total from the table above, rounded up to the nearest half hour, and never less than three hours.
A simple way to plan
Count your bedrooms and bathrooms and add the ranges from the first table.
Add the extra time you want for special tasks, and mention them when you request your quote.
If you plan to book weekly or every 2 weeks, start with the full estimate, then adjust once your home is on a routine.
Who will be in my home, and what can I expect?
Our cleaners are fully insured and background-checked, and they complete cleaning training before their first service. We use products that are safe for kids and pets, and every service comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. You receive your cleaner's name, experience and photo 24 hours before the appointment, and cleaners are available from 8 am to 9 pm, Monday through Sunday.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book a cleaning shorter than 3 hours?
No. Our minimum cleaning service time is 3 hours, and we do not offer 2-hour cleanings.
What if the booked hours are not enough on the first visit?
The first service shows whether your hours were enough. If more time is needed, any added time requires your approval before it is added.
Does deep cleaning take longer than a regular clean?
Deep cleaning covers everything in a regular clean plus extra tasks like kitchen and bathroom walls and the inside of appliances. It is billed at $52 per hour, and the team cleans as much as possible within the hours you choose.
Do special tasks like the oven or fridge add to the price?
No. Special tasks such as the inside of the oven and refrigerator, window edges and interior windows, or the patio door are included at no extra cost. They need to be requested in advance.
Can a cleaner come in the evening or on weekends?
Yes. Cleaners are available from 8 am to 9 pm, Monday through Sunday.
